Hi All,

Been lurking for some time and read much of the archives and recent posts but have not yet seen INTERMITTENT huge white smoke at start up which is what I am getting.

89' F-350 w/289k 4x4, quad cab, auto trans, Bought after previous owner let set for a couple of years. Prior to start up fuel was drained and replaced, new fuel and air filters, new batts.

I have had the truck for a couple of years now and only use it once a month so I have just lived with the huge smoking at start up. Happens when air temp is 110 or 55 no difference. Enough smoke to fill a football stadium until I gun it for a few minutes or drive it for a mile or so. Compression check shows two cylinders below spec and the other 6 barely in spec. Heads were rebuilt by previous owners mech only 2k miles ago. I figured I needed to rebuild the bottom end to fix the smoking issue and low power until intermittently it would start up strong with no smoke and run like it never has before. The glow plugs and circuit seem to be working well and the readings are all below 1 ohm. I am thinking of starting on the IP advance plunger or the injectors but before I go into those I wondered if anyone has see this as an intermittent problem before.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

What were the numbers........ Did the engine do this before the heads were done over by the PO. What does the smoke smell like...... fuel, oil or coolant...
