OK, I'm in the final stages of installing a Hutch mod, but I have a question/problem that I hope others who have done this can answer.

I have the 3/8 Gates high pressure fuel hose that I am about to attach to the inlet of the fuel pump, but the hose is way too large. Even a piece of 5/16 fuel hose seems loose, and Ive measured the fuel pump at .30 inch (5/16 = .3125, and 3/8 = .3750).

So my questions are: wont the fuel line leak badly when I connect 3/8 hose to an inlet less than 5/16, no matter how much I clamp it? Do I need some type of insert into the 3/8 hose to make up the slack, or should I use 5/16 hose, clamp it tightly, and buy a 5/16 to 3/8 reducer in between the two lines?

Surely someone who has done the Hutch mod has run across this problem??? Neither the maker of the Hutch mod kit I have (it's a NOS ITP/pre-Strictly Diesel kit) nor Guzzle address this issue in their instructions.

I double clamped mine. Hose clamps in opposite directions. I was sucking air in my line. This year I am going to look at a larger hose fitting.

I did the double clamping on the outlet from the tank - which was in the instructions, and was really a tube that was basically the same size as the hose. I'm still having a hard time believing that double clamping, or any clamping, will work to attach the 3/8 hose to the 5/16 inlet to the fuel pump and not leak. You sure this worked for you?

And where do you think you need a larger hose fitting?

Super, do you have the factory line that connected to the pump? It's been a little while since I did mine, but I'm pretty sure I ended up running my 3/8" fuel injection hose OVER the metal fitting and then clamping the end. The suction air leaks are not as likely to happen at that location of factory fittings as they are at the other locations due to the crappy click fitting design. What I'm saying is that fitting is the ONLY one that gets tighter under suction, so cut off the metal end section of the factory fuel line and clamp your new 3/8" hose over it! Someone does sell a Bosch fuel pump adaptor, but it's not necessary. Hope this helps!

I don't think it's optimal, but you could get a good seal with 3/8 hose on the fuel pump inlet. It would be better to match the size closer (5/16). The clamp(s) should easily compress the hose onto the inlet barb.

Thanks for the replies.

After StockKnocker got me all excited about the possibility of an adapter for the Bosch fuel pump, I searched and couldnt find one. But I did go look at the pump a little closer, and it turns out there is a ridge on the fuel pump inlet that the clip on the factory vibralock locks onto, and it is possible (actually not that hard) to force the 3/8 fuel injection over that ridge, using it like a hose barb, although I'm sure it's not intended for that. This must be the reason no one mentions this in their instructions, I guess it is assumed you will figure that out.

Anyway, I've attached the hose over ridge/barb, and it looks like it should hold . . . I'll know when I finish hooking it up this weekend!

I guess you were right, George, I shouldnt have doubted you!

Super, the adapters were made by Bar None Diesel and sold on [email protected], for around $20, but like I said, no need for it and I had been worried at first as well! Once you mentioned that ridge, it jarred my memory. I heated the f.i. hose a little with my heat gun and slid it right over that ridge. I used all high quality (made in USA) stainless worm clamps and no problems ever since. Enjoy your much quieter PSD! Cheers!
