I hadn't run the old 6.9 in a while, so ran it down for a fill up. It was running a bit off, so I took a gander at the IP. It was way off the marks, so I set it back. It seems to be running better now.

I need to start pulling a larger trailer, so have been looking at the Hypermax. They are claiming a 50% increase in power. I will be pulling freeway, and mountains, so the non-wastegated turbo sounds like the way to go. I'm not interested in acceleration.

Has anyone got before and after dyno or G-Tech information on the Hypermax?

If I order this part, I'll order a fresh IP from Oregon Fuel Injection set up for the Hypermax. I've got around 8-10K on a fresh set of injectors and head gaskets. The engine seems to be happy, but it doesn't make enough power to pull the passes with my one car trailer loaded, much less the two car trailer I need.

Is this a pipe dream? Should I just trade the old IDI in and get a Power-Stroke?

The last trip I took, the C6 emptied itself pulling the pass. I had to refill the transmission to complete the trip. It hasn't leaked a drop since. Weird.
I'm thinking the fluid got hot and blew out the front seal. The Low band doesn't seem to be holding like it used to. It feels a bit slippery till I stand in it.
It might be time to go through the C6 as well. :rolleyes:

I'll take that as a no.
Tonight, I'll go out and get a baseline with the G-Tech with some 1/8 mile pulls. Can't get in too much trouble doing that. As slow as the old truck is, I'm probably safe doing 1/4 mile runs in a 55 zone.

OFI wants $2800 for a Banks setup, and a grand to install it. Just enough more to push me toward the Hypermax and my own shop. About $2K plus a fresh IP. ($440ish)

If the wife allows me to deplete the finances for a turbo, I'll get back up here with some real world numbers. If not, I'll keep pulling the race car around till the 6.9 grenades on me, then take up basket weaving or something. :lol:

Some guys have had good luck with a propane setup. Might be something to consider. Do a search on it and see what you come up with.

I've seen the propane setups, that isn't the kind of thing I'm looking for.

We'll see how things work out. I'm more interested in getting some more air to the engine to get clear of the stall on the converter pulling hills.

Sure would be good to get some specific info on the Turbo in question. The claim of 50% power increase is my question. If I can keep the engine spun up to keep from heating the transmission dropping into the stall, that'll solve my problem.

Appreciate the thought though. :D

There will be several guys making pulls on the dyno with different set ups (stock IP, Moose IP, and so on) with hypermax turbos this July at the rally.

There will be a great deal of info gathered on what makes power on these IDI's. Hope to see you guys there.

I'll be looking forward to learning the results! The rally sounds like fun, however the miles would be a killer. :)

I need to upgrade the truck by the end of May, or buy something with a bit more pulling power.
I drove a '97 Power Stroke the other day, but it didn't seem to have much tug left in it. It might have just been worn out. It showed 201k on the clock, and had rails for a fifth wheel in the bed. No records or background, of course. :shrug03:

Gary (icanfixall) is coming from southern Cali........possible with a few guys from Diesel Power.

He's going hold the record for furthest to travel to an IDI weekend. This is the ONLY IDI RALLY in the country. I wish some more west coasters would convoy together and meet us in Bowling Green.
