I’ll post some pictures. I know they are suppose to be no more then 8 inches high. In the picture it’s 9 but the pavement slops as I was changing oil in vehicles yesterday. Here’s the story.

Going to the park to play with the GFs kids. I’ve never been pulled over in my dually... never. Following them and we pass 4 dps suv vehicles. As we make a left turn then a small right and another left to get into the park. I park my truck, put my wallet up and phone. Step outside as there’s a cop behind me with the window down saying hey. So I Say back hey hows everything. He Tells me my flaps aren’t wide enough. I say “oh no I just thought the center needed covered because of bricks and stones flying”. He acts like I’m breaking a big big law and says well I don’t want to make a scene... Softball game with out of town people and lots of others on that Saturday evening buses and such. I say ok. Then he asked for my ID. In my head I’m thinking dang he is really serious but then again cops want to run everyone’s ID. I told him I don’t have it that its in the truck. So with my head in the window and him saying no no it’s ok just spell your name as I’ll type it in....my name is hard to spell but I think he just wanted to take up my time. I said hold on I’ll go get the ID. In the back ground I hear him say oh No that’s ok. But I’m already getting tired of him and him saying “I don’t want to make a scene” when that’s what he was doing. Go into the truck and grab my handgun license to give to him so he maybe knows I try to keep my nose clean. He didn’t put it into his computer Just glanced at it and left. Again saying he didn’t want to make a scene Like he was doing me a favor and I needed to be carried away in cuffs. Did not bother me at the time. Just looking back. Even if my mudflaps aren’t wide enough I made the effort to put some on and put them more on the outside then normal but still not a snagging hazard that’ll rip my fender off... probably turned more into a rant then a post Lol.

I see to may offset wheels and other dually trucks that look way worse then mine. If that cop stays in my town he really isn’t gonna like the 37s I had in mind for her lol.

Personally, I think the cop had every right to pull you over and ask for your ID and it sounds from your description that he was quite easy going and you had the problem.

As for your mudflaps, sure looks to me like the tires stick out beyond the edge of the “mud” flaps.

My concern is that you don’t throw up a stone and crack my windshield.

Thats my 2¢ since you asked.

I agree with ArticDriver, if you want to know your states specific mud flap rules and how far your tires can stick out go down to your local State Police, Highway Patrol office and ask them. They may help and then they may give you a pamphlet with the rules and regulations.

Your mudflaps are fine. Your tires are too wide. Luckily he didn't shoot you on site. ?‍♀?

The last time I got pulled over it was because "my license plate light didn't allow him to read the plate from 100 feet."
He "let me go" with a warning after I wiped the dust off of it...

Dang artic cat I was pretty nice to the guy. I make sure to get along with all local law enforcement so you have an idea about them. Also if you do as they say you tend to get warnings or no ticket at all. This isn’t about him as much as it is making sure my truck is legal. Although I do think he was bored and he was annoying me over something that’s been like that’s for 5 or 6 years now. A lot of the ones we get are from bigger cities. They shot someone or messed up. Demoted to a small town... the mudflaps are 7.5 inches from the ground, I looked today on even surface. The state law says no more then 8 but says nothing about the width.

... as slow as I drive that standard low geared truck no one is getting their windshields cracked lol. I also keep my tires pressure washed and clean. I just see that it might be technically legal or doesn’t say anything in the book but it sure does piss some people off (artic cat lol) but Usually stays on a trailer. I usually take the half ton everywhere but thought 14 miles would be good for the trucks batteries. Guess I’ll be cutting down some big rig mudflaps... for my stock height truck ??‍♂ Not even 3 inches I bet on the edges lol. Oh well. Or keep my trailer just hooked up to it. I’ve been all over Texas in that truck and never had one person tell me about mudflaps or pull me over in that truck. Easy to think the officer was just having a bad day when he doesn’t give you a warning or a ticket about what’s wrong and you’ve gone 6 years and see way worse on the road all the time. just sorta hassled me instead. My opinion, give me a ticket or a warning and let me go on about my day... Atleast then I’ll know he wasn’t hassling me and there’s something indeed wrong... this is why I’m on the website asking laws lols. I searched the laws and just came up with ground clearance.

I think people forget that single cab 4wds just look big and stand out. The tires on it are tiny in comparison to the truck. On a crew cab dually you never even notice mudflaps. Sometimes they are hanging to the side. Those are the people that need pulled over lol. I was gonna put 37s on this bad boy since the tires on it now are dry rotted. I will say if the same cops pulls me over with 37s and my mud flaps are the same I’ll have a sh&t eating smile and laugh. Take my ticket and leave... honestly guys. The big rig flaps are gonna look stupid and the truck already looks silly with the small tires on it.

Texas... the place where we use are back tires as steps in and out of the bed. To cut down on my tire size would be like tell a old man to stop using his viagra lol. I need me step for gooseneck hookups. Ol grumpy artic cat over there sounding like I needed drug out of a park where there’s 60 or 70 parents and kids around and I’m just trying to go play with someone else’s kids other then mine on a Sunday afternoon, hog tied lol. Ya sure, nice cop. Im sure he will win my small town over lol. Anyways legally 8 inches, width for cranky people with small tires. Otherwise legally legal.

Bottom line- I think they use petty crap like that and my dirty license plate light as justification to stop you. Then, they have a reason to escalate if you look suspicious.

my thoughts exactly. The ID thing. I have no problem showing anyone my ID. I’m not like the people you see on the internet trying to act like Smart ass to them. I just thought the cop was lying. If I’d gotten a warning or ticket I would know it wasn’t right by the book... when you see everyone riding around with offsets and 35s it makes you question him. The tires on it are just a little bigger then the stock wheels on the 3/4 Ton I have. Bought the truck with those tires and no mudflaps. To me it was just silly and he was a jackass he knew he was making a scene that’s why he kept saying he didn’t want to make a scene. I went ahead and looked him up and he is friends with troopers I’m friends with. Maybe he will leave me alone now. I’m tall and skinny, look younger then I am. The truck is nice but does look like a kids truck. Idk I understand it I just wish it was handled different. Not leave me guessing looking up dps laws and slightly embarrassed.

Sounds like a simple pretext stop. In other words, probable cause for some CSV (chicken stuff violation) makes the stop then shake the tree and see if anything falls out.

What I don’t understand are the guys that run around in their “look at me” bro-dozer lifted mall terrain vehicles to draw attention to themselves but then complain when they get attention? Le shrug.
