How do you tell which it is? Grinding/growling, sometimes high pitched, turbo like sounds, worse when pumping brake (but not always, almost always at very low speed or at stop. About 3 inches wheel travel either way befor it starts to turn. Is there a way to check those separately?

First of all, check the fluid level in the PS pump reservoir.

From what you're describing, it sounds like low fluid, and/or air in the system. Does the brake pedal kick back when you apply the brakes?

Prime suspect if it's full of fluid is the PS pump, then the steering gear, and then the hydroboost. Since steering and hydroboost are both affected, the common denominator is the PS pump.

Im going to hop in here and ask for some help too.

When I turn the wheel, even with decent engine rpm, is will make a hissing noise. I flushed the PS fluid and checked the level a few times since then. The flush helped, but not much. The brakes don't make any noise, but will kick back a tiny bit if im on the pedal real hard. Would this be my PS pump or hydroboost?

Thanks
