I participate in another site {fishing} which identifies members who are also directly or indirectly selling items on the site. The way they do it is to identify the topic starter in red. It definitely makes it easier to distinguish the enthusiast from the salesman. A recent thread on cackle seemed to have an awful lot of self promotion. Anyway thats my .02 cents worth. Thanks for a great site.

This idea makes a lot of sense to me. As this community grows it's going to have more influence and be more attractive to those who would like to use it to their financial advantage.

I appreciate those members who are also vendors and have been upfront about it. They often know a lot more about their particular field of interest than the rest of us and can have a valuable perspective. But we know where they're coming from and that provides the rest of us with a better basis for weighing the value of their information if it relates to the product they sell.
To me it comes down to having some confidence that a member is sharing their experience or knowledge for the sake of helping someone else or if there's a hidden agenda involved.

I'll second spepin's "Member" to "Vendor" idea. I completly welcome, and want the information from "member/vendors" but do believe it would help the Forum if we knew which replys were from vendors.

Please notify the moderators of those selling in the forums by clicking the "!" located at the bottom under your name.

in case you are wondering, its called "theft of service" and in some states [Nevada] if the value is over $100 its a felony.
