IDM??

My freinds truck would not start so he finally took it into the dealer. They said the IDM was shot... They quoted him 850 bucks for a new one, I saw 530 on the dieselsite, but I was wondering, isn't there such thing as a performance IDM?? Where does one go about finding some info on this and who has them? Thanks ahead of time.
