Like said, I'm an OBS guy.
My buddy is looking at getting a Banks chip for his 01 SD and I'm trying to talk him out of it.
Are chips from Jody Tipton, Tony Wildman and the such better in an SD 7.3 like they are in the old ones?

What chip would be best? His mods are, cold air intake, BB turbo, and 4" straight exhaust. He tows about 7K and a popup camper.

Have him call Jody and he will be your best friend. He needs gauges and I would support the auto tranny with a VB if he has one. I love the FTVB sold by dieselsite.com.
