I had the batteries and alternator tested and they say they are fine. But I do not think it to be true. I have an AIC and over the last month I have seen the voltage start to drop. Usually during normal driving I would consistentally see 14.4 volts on the AIC now I am lucky to see 13.9 Is this a sign that the alternator is going out? In the mornings the batteries are showing about 12.3 before startup and I haven't had them die on me yet, but I do tons of traveling out in the boon-docks and want to get the alternator replaced if it is going out.

CLICKY This guy has a 200 amp alternator for about 175 shipped. I was considering him because he has good feedback.

I need a new alternator too. What is the procedure to R/R. It looks like you I can just remove the 3 bolts and the electrical connections. Will I need to relieve the tension on the belt somehow before I remove and replace the alternator?

You can release the belt tension by putting a 1/2" breaker bar in the belt tensioner. And remove both groung cabel's from batteries.

I haven't replaced anything yet as the voltage is holding at 13.8 while driving. What do you guys see on the AIC when driving? It just bothers me that I am not seeing 14.4 anymore. The factory guage of course still shows good since it is a piece...

All,

Just wanted to update this thread. I had put an alternator from Advanced Auto on my 2000 PSD truck when my origianl failed. The Advanced Auto unit started going bad intermittently, but never when I was there to show them. I went through three of them. I finally got my video camera out and video taped it screwing up. Took the camera into the store and showed them. They gave me my money back and I bought one from dbelectrical on eBay. Wow, has been flawless for a couple months now. Definetly the way to go.

You don't say where you're at but voltage will decrease that much as the temperature get's colder. Probably just winter coming on but keep an eye on it. Most of us wouldn't notice it with our analog meeters. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
