After doing a head gasket job one of the injectors knocking. Could it be because I did not torque the injectors? I just tightened them. I had no idea they need to be torqued. How vital is that?

I don't believe injector torque is critical, as long as you got them plenty tight to seal the copper washer at the bottom, but not so tight as to strip the threads.

Injector knock is caused by a nozzle that's stuck open and thus is firing too early (timing advanced). Extreme advanced timing causes knock but also is usually accompanied by lots of blue/white smoke. Is it doing that too? If you weren't careful you might have gotten a speck of dirt into one of the injectors and now it hung the pintle open.

Have you ruled out other causes such as problems in the valve train? It is also possible that something fell down in the cylinder and is hammering around in there.

It sounds like only one injector is knocking. On the right side. The engine does not smoke. I am running on waste vegetable oil. When i switched to diesel the other day the knocking stooped. i will test it little more with diesel. My mpg is around 10 hwy on wvo.

If the knock comes back, you can let the engine idle and loosen one injector line nut at a time to allow the fuel to bleed off and not be forced through the injector. If the knocking stops you will have located your problem cylinder.
