It appears it may be time to replace injectors. My 2002 7.3 has 137,000 miles on it (stock injectors) and I have noticed a rough idle. Can I step up to Stage II injectors without a new turbo? I currently have a stock turbo with ATS housing and WW setup and it works good. I tow a 38' toy hauler on occassion. I don't have the funds for both turbo and injectors at the moment.

People have done it such as thedieselkid but your turbo wont last very long, eventually he blew his up but I wonder how many miles he put on it before it went south?

That's not a lot of time or miles on the injectors. What makes you think they are the culprit? Could be something else much easier and cheaper to fix. Low fuel pressure, ICP or IPR problems, etc...

I mean, unless you are just looking for an excuse to give to your wife so that you can upgrade.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Well it certainly could be one of those things you suggested, my thoughts leaned toward injectors but if I don't have to get new ones yet I can wait. I was gonna pull codes tommorrow and see what's in there too.

Hey in your truck, I see you have Garrett GTP38R Ball Bearing Turbo. You have stock injectors? If so how does that run?

I am running the stock sticks right now along with the GTP38R and no chip. Jody! It runs fine, slow, but fine.

With the chip it screams. Even at altitude it spools very quickly. I have nothing but good things to say about it.

I have been running DI stage IIs for quite a while now, using the stock turbo and no chip or other tuning. I have cleaned up the intake and exhaust, and run about 18 psi, where the turbo is not quite up to clearing the little bit of smoke from the injectors. I will some day add enough boost (I need to get a contract somewhere arouind Jody's place) to clean it up, but otherwise, the pig drags 26k of trailer down the road all day long with no apparent difficulty and no loss of economy over the stock injectors (at the same speed). At 170k miles now, almost all heavy towing.
