I'm considering purchasing one of the aftermarket compressor wheels like the wicked wheel 2 given all the positive reviews and performance improvements that they bring. There looks to be lots of recommendations not to use an impact wrench to remove the old wheel and install the new one to not damage the turbo shaft. I've pulled the turbo a few times and don't have a problem doing it again but I was thinking I can do the remove and replace without pulling the turbo. Shouldn't I be able to remove the down pipe and the exhaust brake housing and then get a good vice grip on the exhaust turbine end and then get a wrench/socket on the compressor? Seems like there is a way of doing this without having to pull the whole turbo off?

On the Super Duties it is possible to pull the compressor housing, and swap the wheel. I'm sure someone will correct me, but our turbos sit lower, so the intake plenum on the driver's side interferes.
