FYI

I tow a 12,000 lb trailer using a DP Tuner in the 40 HP Tow mode.

Usually see around 180 to 190 degrees on the tranny temp guage while towing. It has gone up to 200 degrees on really hot summer days.

Just had my local transimission shop install the Tru Cool 4590 cooler and my tranny temps have dropped 20 degrees.

While towing on I-85 out of South Carolina last Sunday it was 87 degrees out and it never went over 170 degrees on the gauge.

Sure hope this helps the tranny to last a little longer.

Just wanted to share this data in case someone was thinking of adding a cooler.

Yeah, just think about how much of a difference the 6.0 cooler makes!! FYI You really didn't have a trans temp problem before, the temps you posted are perfectly normal, but you are probably like me and felt cooler is better, to a point. My temps dropped 40 degrees after installing the 6.0 cooler. Heat is the biggest killer of auto tranny's so hopefully yes this will help, I would also install a tuned Valve body to shorten the long drawn out shifts, this will lengthen the life of the clutch packs. I have the FTVB sold by Dieselsite.com and love it.

What is the part # for the 6.0L cooler? I have been trying to locate this and most online part suppliers are over $250 for the cooler! is this right? even A large cooler from an aftermarket dealer is less than fords factory 6.0L

The 6oh cooler is quite a bit larger than any aftermarket one,, the tubes are 1/2" diameter, and the latest version has 31 rows! (Earlier had 25 I guess) (I believe they were earlier and later ones,, two different ones available anyway I know)

There is one going on ebay now for $212 plus 25 shipping & handling. This is crazy. I can buy a complete OEM radiator from fordparts.com for less than a tranny cooler. Something does not add up. I am going to search the classifieds.

yeah but a radiator won't cool your trans fluid the way a tranny cooler can. A year ago or so Ford had a huge recall or TSB that required replacing the 6.0 cooler on the newer trucks. Many dealers fixed the real cause of the problem but didn't replace the cooler as the one that was in the customers truck was just fine. Because of this there were tons of 6.0 coolers for sale on Ebay. I had a source where I was buying them for $30-$50 each depending on how many I bought, I was selling them as soon as I got them for $125 shipped. Lately they have dried up a little but can still be found, keep checking Ebay but you have to look several different ways, try 6.0 cooler, Ford Trans cooler, Torq Shift cooler etc... be patient you will find one but I wouldn't pay more than $150, but don't buy a used one.
