Ok,, I have done this on two other PSDs a 7.3 and a 6.0 but getting ready to do it on my 96.. Some say the true reading should be pre turbo, others say go post turbo and add 250-300 degrees to your reading. Other than this can anyone else add to the mix? I am thinking post turbo mainly for ease since the new downpipe is easily accessable and no chance of shavings or failed probe tip hitting the turbo...

All advice appreciated...:read:

I went pre turbo on mine. As far as the probe tip breaking off I have never heard of it happening but only read about people wondering about it. Remember the furthur you are away from the heat the more in accurate the reading is going to be. Here is a WRITE UP on one pre turbo.

why would you want to look at your guage and add anything to it and how do you decide 250 or 200? i would go pre turbo and read the number on the guage.

It's close enough. I put mine right at the elbow where it turns up.

Well its done and working. What a PIA with the probe. We drilled and tapped according to spec however the coupler that screws into the manifold distorted upon putting it in and wouldnt allow the probe to be inserted. After pulling it back out, it had gotten somewhat stripped, and crushed. We are certain we used the right size tap. Anyways, we corrected, chased the threads with a die and got it to go. Cheap metal used for the coupler....
