Hey guys! I am new to this forum and also new to the diesel world. I just picked up a 2004 Ford F250 6.0 auto truck. It is a lariat with adjustable pedals. When I got the truck in on trade the owner said it would drive the lose accelerator pedal then would come back. I picked up a new fixed pedal assembly instead of the $860 adjustable piece, installed it and it worked fine. Drove it home for the first time and after about 20 minutes of driving, I lost accelerator pedal. Sat messing with it for about 15 minutes switched out the old pedal and made it home. It has now done this about 10 times within the last 24 hours. Since I switched the gas pedal assembly once, I'm leaning towards a different culprit. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Please be more specific about "losing" the pedal. Do you mean when you press it there is no engine response? or that when you press it, it just goes to the floor and sits there? The first is indicative of a failed/failing throttle position sensor, the second would be a throttle linkage issue.

There is no throttle linkage, it's drive by wire so any mechanical problem would have to be right in the pedal itself. There was a period of trucks built in the early 00's that developed a dead pedal problem and swapping out the assembly fixed it but since but since you've swapped it once with no fix, and I believe the problem was more like 2002 era, that lowers the odds of it being the issue.

What about the harness going to the pedal? I had adj. pedals in my '03 but that was 2 trucks ago and I don't recall what moved. Does the pedal harness have to move along with the pedals or is the plug part of the pedal somehow stationary? Reason I ask is if it moves, maybe the harness has developed and open or short from being moved all the time. Might be worth inspecting prior to digging deeper.
