Hello all- Hope this is in the correct forum-

I just purchased a 99psd (auto) and it dies every once in awhile, most times once its warmed up and i back up into my driveway. It will die, kinda acts like the convertor tries to lock when i put it into reverse and it dies abruptly. Put into park and it fires right up and backs up fine... doesnt do it all the time, just seems convertor related?

It will also shift into 4th around 40MPH and i need to press the button on the shifter to keep it from dogging in that gear, or sometimes it will die going down the highway if i let off the pedal at 40mph... put in neutral and it fires right back up and motors right on down the Highway.. Is there a way to control TCC lockup of the convertor? It seems to lock at WOT and runs out AOK.

PS truck is down on power, seems to have a bad injector... it smoked alot of white smoke, ive been adding cetane and trans fluid to the fuel and the smoke is 1/10th it used to be and idles alot better now.... power is back up to where it should be...

[/ QUOTE ] You may want to put some of that transmission fluid your putting in your fuel tank in your transmission. Check your transmission fluid level. Low fluid level will cause stalling concerns like this. If the fluid level is ok drop the pan and see if the correct filter is installed and that it hasn't fallen out of the pump inlet.

The Torque Converter can NOT make it shall going down the road. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif The only way a TC can make the engine stall is if it doesn't unlock when stopping and then it will feel like coming to a stop in a manual trans without pushing the clutch in.

You need to look at your CPS first. You should have a spare anyway so just buy a new one and try it. If that doesn't work you need to find some one to look at the DATA STREAM and pull any codes. If there are codes the test procedure that correlates to that code needs to be followed, not skipping any steps and in the order listed.

Trans level is fine, but i guess i will have to drop the pan to see if it has the correct filter. i assume i can just purchase it from napa and use TYPE F FLUID??? Do you know of a part number i can cross it to?

As for adding lube to the fuel, this truck has had a white smoke problem for awhile and always idled really really bad. Ford deamed it as a dead hole, ive been adding oil and trans fluid to it and the smoke will go away, and the power comes back.
I assume its a bad injector because it will idle good, then bad, then good, then bad and once it has more lube, it will idle fine and not blow any smoke at all..

Seems that the extra lube in the fuel will keep the smoke down...
any thoughts on my issues?

Honestly i dont know what a cps is.

It would only die if i would be driving down the road at a steady pace and let out of the throttle going back to idle.. it would only do it once in awhile, put it into neutral and fires right back up and not have another issue...

thats the crank position sensor right?

Its new.. 80.00 at napa

EDIT: CAM position sensor, it takes a 10mm bolt and its located down by the balancer... yes its new, its actually located close to where a turbo buick crank position sensor is at, thats the reason for MY confusion.
