Need a little advice please. When I first start up my truck, my CEL comes on. I can drive for a few minutes then the CEL will turn off. Anytime during driving, the CEL will turn on and stay on for awhile then turn off. When it comes on, sometimes the truck will buck a little bit. When the CEL is on, truck performance is slightly slugish. My fuel filter and Air filter are new. The FPR screen is clean. I have pulled both valve covers off and inspected the harnesses and everything looks good. I did find something odd on the harness thats plugs into the IPR. The material used around the wires was a very soft goo, like it got too hot. I was able to clean up the plug and make sure the wires were ok. No change on the CEL. My thoughts are leaning towards the IPR, but this could be an expensive guess. Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Greg

Have you checked for codes yet? You can throw a lot of time, parts and money,by guessing. BTW there is a way to clean an ipr listed on here somewhere. I used it on my truck and it worked! After getting an 1211 code ;-)

Do a real good inspection of the wiring around the fuel bowl (especially the IPR wiring). Leaking diesel fuel turns the insulation to goo which can cause intermittent problems with wiring shorting etc. You may have to open the loom to be able to do a good job. Cheers!

I am going to have my truck scanned for codes tomorrow morning so hopefully there is a code that can point me in the right direction. I will also continue to inspect my wires around the fuel bowl. I will give you all an update when I find out more. Thanks.

Well, I got my truck scanned. The mechanic was unable to pull any codes. He didn't charge me anything which was a good thing. I ordered a new pig tail for my IPR just to be sure the one I have isn't messing with me, should get it in on Tuesday. We will see what happens.

Pulled the wiring harness out of the truck to inspect and installed the new IPR pig tail. If anybody is interested, the pig tail part number is 6E7Z-12A690-DA. Ford wanted to sell me the entire harness for over $100 and said they couldn't get just the IPR pig tail. Found this part number on this site somewhere and asked them if they could order it, they said "Sure, is this for a Ford Fusion or something?" I said, "Nope, I'm the one who called about the IPR pig tail earlier". Pig tail was $11 and change and came with shrink tube. Truck still has the CEL but I haven't driven it yet. I also had to tighten the nut on the IPR because the solinoid was a little loose. I ordered an IPR o-ring kit and will attempt to clean up the IPR and intall the o-rings. We will see.

Pulled the IPR today. Did the cleaning procedure and replaced the o-rings. The truck starts up OK and drives, but the CEL stays on and doesn't shut off. At least the intermittent problem is fixed. Do I have to do something to clear the CEL or does it shut off by itself when a problem is fixed? My next thought is that the ICP may be problematic, not sure though. FYI, I have read a lot about folks making an IPR tool by welding a piece of flat bar to a deep socket. I found a 29mm socket at O'Reily Auto Parts that is longer than a regular deep socket and is made for axel nuts. It is black and was $13. Plenty long enough to get the IPR out and still be able to fully insert your 1/2" ratchet into the drive end.

ICP Question?? My truck is running pretty smooth now but the CEL stays on all the time. I can unplug my ICP while the truck is running and there is no difference in the way the truck runs. Would this mean that the truck is already running in the "default" mode and the ICP is bad? Your help is apprieciated

How much did you pay for your ICP? I am searching for one because I am going through the same thing with the codes, CEL, ect.. Ford wants to sell me one for $177.10 and they are calling it a Fuel Pressure Sensor. I am not sure if it is the same as a ICP and that seemed high $$ - any thoughts?

Feels good to finally solve the problem dosen't it!

Thanks for any help.

Got mine off of e-bay for $69 with free shipping. Some guy named Pig Pen. He has positive feedback and the shipping was quick.
