My truck has been in the shop since first thing Mon. S/W SR on Mon. afternoon and he said they thought problem I was having (surging and infrequent rough idle after start-up) was related to fuel delivery problem. Said they thought it may be the fuel pump. Called and S/W SR again Wed. @ 4:45 PM and he did not know the status yet, but thought it might be ready today as they were awaiting parts. Did not even know what parts had to be ordered yet because he had not talked with the mechanic about it yet.

In any event, can anyone tell me if the fuel pump is under the 100K mile warranty or not? I'm hoping it is since they have not called to authorize replacement of such an expensive part /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif.

Funny you should ask! They called around 3PM on Wed. to say it was fixed. Not a fuel problem after all...it needed a new turbo! Strange how they "thought" it was a fuel delivery problem and it ended up being the turbo. The CAC hose also had a hole in it so that got replaced. I wonder if the failed CAC hose led to the turbo failure???? This was the second time I asked that the CAC hose be checked due to excessive oil on it. It would have been much cheaper for FoMoCo to replace the CAC hose when I first pointed out the problem than to replace the turbo if THAT IS what caused the turbo failure.

Just a guess.......the infrequent rough idle (I assume it was ONLY after start up ad not before /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif ) and surging will still be there.

Only reason I say that is that it seems to be more and more common recently and I'm not sure I understand how a turbo at idle would cause rough idle and surge. If by surge, you mean the RPM's increasing, I'm guessing ICP sensor. Mines doing it. Sometimes at idle you can tell it's dropping ICP then kicking it up to default over and over so you get a chug, chug, kind of idle until ICP is controlled again.

LOL! The rough idle would occur RIGHT after start-up and only when warm, not when I would pull up to a traffic light or into the driveway, but when I fired the engine after fueling or going into a store for just a few minutes. Sometimes the engine would just get real quiet when I would try to pull out of the parking space or away from the fuel pump, just like it does when descending a hill. Then I couldn't get the truck to move without feathering the accelerator. The other problem was a bucking type surge when I would be traveling at 70 MPH. My guess is the vanes were sticking, but not quite sure. I just hope the turbo WAS the problem! Three days in the shop was enough.

I've got almost 95K miles on the ticker with three long road trips for work coming up and will be over the 100K warranty in a few weeks with NO time for 3-day shop visits. I HOPE the turbo was the problem, because subsequent repairs will be my full responsibility unless I can get them to go back to the original service invoice for the problem I was having and honor the warranty which is doubtful.

I'd sell/trade the thing today, but just spent $1200 on tires and shocks because it was running like a champ until two weeks ago.

Ah ha!! Did they do anything about the bad EP sensor? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif It controls the EGR and will do just that. Take off and have no power at all and almost dead silent. Dealer didn't fix mine last June although it was the primary concern so within 3 days of getting it back with a new EGR valve and cooler, I had to do something so I could drive it. The EGR valve shouldn't need to be replaced since it's still new. < cheesy wink wink> /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
