I'm having trans issues and the tranny shop gave the okay on the trans it was a p1728 code but there is still a electrical problem or sensor because I get flashing od and hard shift mode. So I got to thinking that I would replace my vss and when I went to take it out the rearend was hot enough you would not want to leave your hand laying on it or couldn't granted it just went 30 miles down the interstate but should it be that hot? I am getting a new vss tomorow and I will change the fluid and make sure it is full as well as clear the dirt outta the vent from the po running without a hose on it. But is it normal

Depending on gear, load, and conditions, I would say YES, it's NORMAL.

yup thats normal, and the entire reason I only use syn fluid in a rear end, try towing heavy adn then touch it.

As for your tranny , thats a TC slip code adn teh one that most people get 3-6 months before the tranny packs it in, it is not a sensor fault, your mechanic just doesn't know is the issue.
