I think I would find another mechanic. Your dpf is designed to raise temps to clean itself. Running in 3rd isn't going to give you any advantage there. Plus running the higher rpms uses more fuel and is harder on the engine.

I agree, find a new mechanic...what you can do is to raise the rpms in stop and go traffic if you are in a regen cycle.

But to just cruise around and waste fuel in lower gears is stupid.

Find a new home..he is suppose to diagnos. Not send you out to break it and then say what is wrong.
Thank you for your input senix, but how should I approach the dealer? every time I go to them they just beat around the bush and never do what I ask them to do. I've asked them to check my EGR valve, and DPF, they say they checked it, and said they came back just fine (they obviously didn't check them because the seal hasn't been broken) Oh and btw I have an immense amount of soot on the inside of my tailpipe. It's all black, and I still have my DPF on. Is that a problem???

Don't approach them at all, just find another dealer to get your service from. Sounds like they really jerk you around. There's no excuse for dealer folks lying to you about what they've done. I think that you need to find *competent* service *soon* with all that soot etc.

If you have no choice but to go to that dealer (too far to the next one?), then I'd document everything and then get Ford Customer Service involved immediately.

Good luck,
- Don

Nope no codes, im sitting at 92,000km. 2008 f-350 PTD. DPF, EGR valve, etc. has never been changed. Ford isn't doing anything about it. They flashed my truck a week ago, just before i headed out on my 300km trip up island. I was there for a week, drove around while i was on vaca. and put approx. 125km on my truck... then headed back home on the 300km journey. My truck didn't go into regen for the whole 725km...and still hasn't and i've been in town for 2 days now. I find it quite odd, since my truck was usually blowing mass amounts of blue smoke every 20km. I was doing 110-150km/h for most of the 3 hour trip (highway driving the whole way, no city driving). I was doing those speeds to get my EGT's up and clean the exhaust out. Now i'm even more confused, any idea on what's happening???

Maybe you should ask them to chnage the spark plugs.

Ford won't make a move unitl they see a damn code. There is a truck in dealer here that the owner complained about an engine noise. No codes.

Then the crankshaft thrust washer broke and Ford is now putting in an enhanced short block under engine warranty.

What the hell did they due before they had codes to wait for?

Has a guy complain his new Vette wouldn't start back in the day (1967). No code - actually nothing in there to throw a code. Actually had to take some stuff apart and diagnose the problem. Tell tale sign - 7 valve stems on one head
