Something I've noticed recently when reading these forums: when I click into a topic that has new entries (as evidenced by the colour of the folder) I don't see the new entries unless I hit "Reload" inside the topic. I'm using Netscape V4.6, and I've tried clearing both the disk cache and the memory cache, and activating the "compare cache to network" button; I still have to reload to see things that have been added since my last visit. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe it's because Netscape is still buggy. From 4.0 to 4.6, it's been really unstable for me, and their upgrades add features but the program still is unstable. I also notice that some sites with pull-down menus or embedded message boards do not load properly under Netscape. They're fine in IE4.

Strange, I always use Netscape 4.61 with no problems. We also have it on about 1000 workstations in the school system where I work. I just got a new Dell computer at home with IE 5.0 preinstalled. I must admit it is very nice, but I've been using Netscape since 1.22 and am leary to switch.

Half the time, it crashes the video driver (Voodoo Rush cards suck!), the other half is Netscape itself. Hercules is aware of these problems with Netscape, but they aren't releasing any driver support for this card anymore.
It's been okay lately, and I prefer the complete Communicator package over the IE/Outlook combo. I just put up with it as best I can.

Alan,

Check your setup by clicking on Edit, then preferences, then advanced, then cache. Look at how your "document in cache is compared to document in network" is setup. Change your settings to "check every time". This will probably slow down your Internet access a little, but you should get updated info each time you access the page.

I have tried all 3 options on checking page vs. cache - I have even tried clearing both the disk and the memory cache; I still have to manually reload threads to see new additions - I don't know what's going on, but it's a minor inconvenience, and one I put up with to keep updated on the various threads I'm interested in!
