I know most of you have the newer vans but I really like the '69-'74 Ford vans! I am selling my all original '74 Quadravan on eBay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150125554826 ).

I have wanted a 4X4 van since I was a little kid playing with Stompers. Remember that van they had? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif I found this van from a guy who was using it for a work van, but it had been sitting for a long time. He sold it to me and I got it running really good in no time! It didn't even take that much to work out the little problems.

Pretty soon, my wife and I were driving it all over the place. We even took it to Moab,UT and southern CA towing the Jeep on a trailer. I put a little over 13K miles on it last year, and it was a second vehicle to me! We got compliments on it just about everywhere we went.

So, now I need to make another decision. I have a '69 that I have to keep because I proposed to my wife in it; I know, how romantic! You had to be there. There was a beach, the sun was setting, and we were stuck in the sand (reason the sun was setting...)! Hahahaha. Anywhoo, I'm not happy with the 6.0 Ford is offering in the vans and the 7.3s are hard to find. I either need to find a 7.3 van or I have this Cummins 4 cylinder I could put in the '69!

The '69 would be way cheaper and be kind of cool, but a new van with all the bells and whistles is really hard to beat. I travel a lot with my wife to different races (I race motorcycles and cars) and we go on these huge excursions whenever we get the chance. This winter, we'll drive down to Cabo a couple of times while I pre-run the Baja 1000.

So, I'm leaning towards the super clean '69 Ford (45K miles) with a diesel. Oh yeah, if I go that route, I can make that one a 4X4 while I'm welding stuff up! What do you guys think? If you think I should get a 7.3 in a newer van, are there any years to look out for? I know someone else already asked that question. I also don't know how many miles are too many on those 7.3 motors. My Dodge truck has sure gone a long ways with it's diesel.

Thanks for all the help! Whatever I end up doing, I'll post up the build plans. Also, am I wrong about the 6.0s now?

I'd stay away from the 6.0, unless you could get one really cheap and were prepared to leave it stock and "wing it". Otherwise the 7.3s go up to 2003. But the Cummins idea sounds pretty cool...
