Only item I see I would like is the tire monitoring. Not much of a chrome fan and with my poor eyesight, I doubt whatever could be displayed in that already too small rear view mirror I would not be able to make out. Nice though that Ford is working overtime making the best truck even better. No one else gives us all the great options that Ford does, allowing us to build the truck we want.

Ahhh, the grass is always greener, ain't it?

I'd look at the silver lining brother. Yer gonna have yer truck in yer driveway WAY sooner then if you waited for any of that Job #2 stuff. And besides, you can add pretty much all that stuff aftermarket anyhow.

Believe me when I say you want yer truck now...yer gonna LOVE it!

I didn't even notice the tire pressure monitoring system as an option when I placed my order the other week. Is it supposed to be?

TPMS is a legal requirement on some percentage of vehicles and that may be 100% for 2008 vehicles built after a certain date.
They may have not offered it until the legal requirement hit.

I don't think TPMS is That big of a deal. We have it on our Lexus GX470. I would think I could tell just as well without it if I had a low tire.

Having said that, I most likely will opt for it when I order my Job 2 '08. Still not sure about the back-up cam moniter in the mirror. I am pretty sold on the Pioneer AVIC-Z2. Larger monitor, and the ability to have multiple cams mounted (rear view, bed view, front bumper view, etc.), plus a 30GB hard drive to store all the movies & CD's in.

I would like to see the "mirror monitor" though. Does Ford use it in any other vehicles that might be at a dealership right now?

Is it true with TPMS you will not be able to change tire sizes to the monster type tires...I was told it will work with only the factory tires and factory optional sizes....that would kill the aftermarket tires sizes for sure...anybody know?....thanks....Kevin /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

My mothers GM Opel Signum has this system. When changing to snow tires we lost the function. The dealer told me that the sensors are inside the rims. However, I never checked that personally.

On the Lexus, the sensors are in the rims.
My summer & winter tires are the same size, but I don't think it matters.

According to the Lexus OM, the system senses any drop in pressure from the benchmark created when the system was reset by the button on the lower dash. I'm not sure, but I'd bet the sensors could be transfered to an aftermarket rim.

Worse case scenerio: You upgrade the rims & tires and the TPMS no longer works. Big deal.

You can still go to bigger tires on the stock rims with the TPMS. The TPMS only monitors tire pressure, not tire sizes. There are two types of sensors used, one is the band type, where the sensor is strapped to the step in the wheel, and the valve stem type, simply remove the nut on the valve stem and replace it. You should be able to switch either type to another brand wheel, but there may be some exceptions depending on wheel design.

Now for another thing most people don't do, when you rotate wheels/tires on a vehicle equipped with TPMS, you should reprogram the sensors, otherwise if it warns you for LF tire, it may actually be LR tire that may be low. That is the biggest problem I've seen, but they are easily programmed with any good strong magnet.

Thanks for the reply....I didn't know how they worked...Is it tied into the computer or does it set off warning buzzer if a tire is low....if it is just a light most people will ignore it like a check engine light...

The sensor is indeed located inside the wheel. If they program it like all other Ford vehicles with it, the message center will show Low Tire Pressure. If aftermarket wheels are installed, or the spare tire, the message will be constant.

Thanks Bobby...It really is fairly simple....Kevin

This is actually a pretty good option in my opinion.

Example:

My wife has a new Expedition that has it. She picked up a nail on the right front tire at some point in time and was driving down the freeway (Speed Limit 70 mph) and the LTP message popped up and she pulled over and called FRA to come out and change the tire for her. Made me think what would have happened if she was not notified of the low tire and it went completly flat while driving down the freeway.

Anyone know when you can order with these options? When the first build date will be (7/30/07)? If there will be a price increase? Lastly, is there a two week shutdown at KTP Superduty production line this July?

Yeah, I had it on my last F-150. The message center beeped. Ten seconds later, I was riding on the rim. It may be good for a slow leaker, but that's it. And how often does that happen?

You can order a truck with these options now, but it should be put on material hold for a while until they start to pull JOB2 orders. The first build date for JOB2 was supposed to be 08/06/07, but it appears that it has been bumped up a week to 07/30/07. Price increase? You can almost guarantee it. Especially since they are adding standard equipment, i.e. TPMS. I am not sure when shutdown is at KTP, but it is usually around that time frame.
