i live in st Louis and its got just a little rust forming around the rear fender well small dings around the truck inside fair. i figured i could fix the rust pretty easy. i actually bought it without realizing it wasn't a power stroke, i had looked at so many trucks that day and this truck just fit the bill the price i thought fair for a power stroke considering what the other trucks where going for. i bought it from a small dealer all he dealt in was trucks. he said the truck just had 3000 put into it. which could have been done by the big dealer he bought it from i goggled the Vin and it came up on a ford dealership in kc and it was listed 6 days from when i bought it. when i test drove it it ran good has an aftermarket exhaust not sure what brand has a 4 inch tip on it. it was a cold day outside around 30 degrees and the guy didn't have any of them plugged in so it was a good cold start and it glowed for the right amount of time and started right up didn't blow out any smoke even when i test drove it no smoke. the transmission felt solid when i test drove it no slips or hard shifts and i drove it pretty hard the 4x4 worked. it could use an alignment. i was dumbfounded when i got home and realized it wasnt a powerstroke and that i could be that stupid. i feel that the 7.3 factory turbo is a good engine its just limited. i work construction and was planning to use this truck at my job we haul alot of bobcats around. this is the first big truck ive ever owned.

It doesn't take much to tweak that engine and it's a whole lot cheaper to repair than a powerstroke. $4900 isn't to bad of a price if the engine and drivetrain are in good condition.

Personally, I think its a little on the high side but if it fits the bill then thats all that matters.

In terms of power you can get the upgraded downpipe if it doesnt already have it. The stock downpipe was crushed and restricted airflow.

its a great truck, my dad drove my '92 7.3 for 270,000 miles pulling forklifts and pallets of sod. after 180,000 though we had to replace the tranny. it is a good strong truck as long as you know how to drive it!

Don't let them get to you, I think you got one of the most dependable Ford diesels you could buy. I work for a utility contractor, we have all Fords, all diesels, from 92 F250 to 08 F550's. Guess which truck is the most dependable, cranks everytime, runs great for 315000 miles? The 92 7.3 IDI!!! This was the Boss's first company truck which after he upgraded it has got past down to the teams as a work truck and now has been downgraded to a spare truck, the running joke at work is it is the best truck we have, it also is the worst looking from all of the abuse. But it cranks everytime! The thing I have noticed is you drive the 92, it has power, drive the 95 Powerstroke, it has a little more, drive the 99's,01's they have a little more, drive the 6.0s- they are ok, drive my new 6.4-can I drive the 92 again?:jester:

You still didn't say what year it is, but for $4900 you didn't go wrong. The coolant in these 7.3 IDI's is a very important factor to watch, they are subject to cavitation, (eat holes in the cylinder wall's). Not knowing what is in there I would change the coolant, and put in the RED Fleetgard from an IH dealer, that contains the right amount of SCA's, or something similar to it. Evan's coolant is a premium coolant ($30/Gal.) but is the best you can get, no SCA's to contend with ever, and it run's at 0 pressure in the coolant system. There are lot's of coolant's on the market that you can use, but they all have to contain SCA's.

OK I see you did put the year in your sig. now.

Try to get the motorcraft FL1995 or equivalent. Its the powerstroke filter and it holds a extra quart of oil than the original stock filter with better filtering. Don't know much about the K&Ns other than staying away from their air filters on a diesel. Also suggest staying away from fram oil filters.

If you have an IH truck dealer near you get the large filter from them (Wix) They will last for 2 oil changes, got 7000 miles on mine now, and oil looks real clean, just slightly brown, not black. I use them on my 90 7.3IDI also. Yeah don't use FRAM. IH dealer filter LF3630 19.04 list cost 11.54
