The tank and a half doesn't mean much until you take how many miles you drove then divide how many gallons used for MPG.

Now we need to know a little more about your truck.

Auto or manual tranny?

what size tires?

what rear end ?

These big brutes don't get any awards for mileage. My truck in Sig gets about 14-16 empty and 10.3 towing my house. I have the 4 speed automatic and 4:10 rear end. Look at the federal sticker on the drivers side door and look for your axle code. then go to the link below and determine what it is, as long as it wasn't changed.

Driving style has a HUGE affect on the mileage.

What is my Ford rear end ratio, do I have positraction - Drivetrain.com

Chucksters right, when I first got my 93 (5spd) I was hot dogging around town and downshifting through the first few tanks, I was get about 13-14. Now the new is wore off and I am more conservative NO down shifting unless emergency just kick her out of gear and coast up to the red light. Let the hot rods stack up behind you I never take mine over 1700 before grab another one. Filled the tanks up last night I got 16.998. Not bad and I don't have the turbo....yet!!

Well i got to looking and that site said it should have the 8.8 10 bolt rear end if i looked rite but i went to my truck and its a 12bolt which is the 10.25 on that site. and i got all the codes off the axle and non match the code on the door jam, so im guessing maby, axle swap??

tag- 55 10 2 0C30
pumpkin side- 0075
12bolt

the truck also has a 3in body lift if that matters any?

Look more closely at the tag. There should be either a "3." (open diff) or "3L" (limited slip) in front of the "55".

i have the auto trans, tires are 31s and its 3.55 gearing from what i can tell. and in all truths i have not dogged it much at all ive just eased on at like 1500 rpm or so and let it work its way up
Standard tires are what 29" and yours are 31's...It does take a bit more to get them bigger tires moving. Having a 3:55 rear end does make for better freeway cruising, but IMHO it makes the stop and go a little harder. You need to fill the tank(s) and take an average over two or three tanks.

Even with your 3:55 vs. my 4:10 and your 31's vs my 29's. I would wager that it takes more go pedal to get your truck rolling than mine.
