I'm in the middle of my Bullet Proof upgrade (EGR & OC) and I just took out the stock EGR Cooler. I was expecting to see a "failure" of some sort, but to my surprise, the thing appears to be dry as a bone. Other than pulling it into the garage, the truck has sat for about 10-14 days, but still I figured I'd see something. I pulled my EGR Valve a few weeks ago and it was wet. That coupled with my about 1/4" loss of coolant and I'm pretty sure I noticed a bit of white smoke while passing on the interstate (though granted only once, early in the morning, and it was more in my peripheral, but all other facts considered) led me to believe the time had come for the swap.

So am I missing something here? I was/am still hoping it's not HG's. My truck has never been chipped. The only performance mod is a 5" exhaust. I did do some towing for about a year, but that was a year ago. I don't understand why the HG's would randomly go out for no apparent or obvious reason.

What's done is done, but I really don't wanna put it all back together only to find out I gotta do it all over again.

Your cooler will probably be dry because thats the first place the hot exhaust gasses hit. Then they are cooled and condensed in the intake. My cooler was dry when I took it out as well, but everything else was wet.

My heads have blown for no reason it seems too. I have studs and stock tuning for 4 years and it didnt matter.

Did you ever have any puking? Or check for exhaust in the coolant?

It sucks the only way to truely know if the heads are blown is to put it back together and road test it.

oh okay cool, I guess that makes sense when you think about it. That is GOOD NEWS for sure. I do find it very interesting that my 03 EGR Cooler is almost the same design as my new Bullet Proof unit. It's round with round tubes (I have pics to post later).

I can't believe the HG's blew out with studs and a stock tune. That sucks. I'm sure hoping that's not my issue, but I guess you're right, there is only one way to find out.
