Hi,

I am a new owner of a 2003 excursion diesel (6.0) and I am having 2 issues with my vehicle. The first is a knocking sound which feels like it comes from under my feet (driver side). It seems worse when I turn the wheel to the left, but it will do it also when I hit minor bumbs. Should I replace my shock (they are original), or is it something else.

2nd, when my motor is cold, I cannot get the vehicle to pull out very fast at all. As a matter of fact, it seems almost as if there is major turbo lag even when it is warm. Once I get up to about 20MPH, it flies.

Should I look into tuners, chips or is there something wrong

Thanks,
Ronald

The knock could be the body mounts or the sway bar bushing. I would do the sway bar first, cheap and easy to do yourself. The slow going is a mystery to me but others have had it.

Probably the EBV (Exhaust backpressure valve) When cold, the valve closes to aid in engine warmup. Once warm, it should open up. You could have one that is sticking partially closed. Do a search on EBV or EBPV and you should find plenty of info.

If you haven't had a diesel before it will seem like it pulls out slow compared with a gasser. Mine seems "slow" also but if I put the hammer down it takes off.
The clunk may be your shocks bottoming. The X is horrible under-sprung.

THE KNOCKING IS MOST PROBABLY THE SWAY BAR BUSHINGS I REPLACED MINE WHEN I HAD THE SAME SOUND AND IT FIXED IT REAL EASY TO DO YOURSELF WITH AHND TOOLS AND ABOUT 15 MIN WORTH UNDER THE TRUCK I PAID 9.86 A PIECE FROM THE STEALERSHIP NOT BAD.....THE SLOW GOING I HAD THAT IN THE WINTER TOO BUT I CHIPPED IT UP AND NO MORE SLOW FOR ME /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think everyone is right by saying that the bushings are bad. Is the EBV or ebpv easy to check, fix or replace? I am not totally mechanically challenged and have access to a Truckers garage and some friend mchanics (although not diesel mechanics)
