2003 F450- I just started hearing a knocking sound from what seems to be the front of the engine. It only does it at idle and not in reverse. I also hear a loud whistle while driving which i assume is the fan clutch. any advice would be very appreciated.

It's kind of hard to tell how to help you from your description of the problem.

Fill out your signature and tell us about your truck.

If you suspect the fan clutch or water pump, you can check them further by (with the engine off) loosening the serpentine belt and seeing if the fan feels loose on the shaft. Also check under the water pump pulley for evidence of leaking coolant. While you have the belt loose, also check the other stuff that's driven by it.

This is just a wild guess, but the "doesn't do it in reverse" kind of points away from water pump issues.

[/ QUOTE ] Unless you have a extended warranty the torque converter is not covered under the PSD 5 year 100.000 mile warranty.
