I I have Kodiak with the Catapillar Diesel engine, 3116. When I tow a trailer weighing approximately 14,000 pounds around town my temperature is 180° according to the factory gauge however when I'm on the interstate running 65 miles an hour at 2500 RPM the temperature gage creeps up closer to 200°. Is that normal for this truck?
The truck at idle shows a temp of 180.

If the grills are smokin, the truck's exhaust should be too. lol....just kidding.
That temp is nothing at all to worry about. It's actually ideal. When it gets over 230, you better be getting it pulled over.

So it is your belief that I could drive at temperatures up to 220 degrees without much worry of damaging the engine, correct?

Yes, absolutely. At 220, you should be backing out of the pedal. 230, pulling over.
