I just changed the fuel filter the other day on my "99 F250, and now I am getting a dripping from the drain tube. I have tried several different suggestions to openinf and closing the valve, and there is no change. After about 1 minute of ru time the drip begins again.
I know I read somewhere to change the o rings in the valve, but can not find that info, and I am not sure how to change them.
Does the whole bowl have to be removed?
Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
Phil

Black Cloud Diesel sells the O-rings for a fair price alot less than I can at least considering Ford has them packaged in a kit that has other pieces in it.

No, you don't have to remove the whole bowl, but the valve is a little hard to get to. There are 4 torx screws holding it to the bowl, and a rubber hose connector (slip on) to the metal drain tube.

You might have to remove some things that are in the way (glow plug wiring harness?, etc.) to get in there. A 1/4" ratchet with the proper size torx bit (#20 IIRC) will get them loosened, but you'll probably want to reach down to turn the bit by hand once they're loosened, because there isn't much room to swing the wrench.

Also be careful not to drop things into the "Valley of Death" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif, although a missing bolt reappeared /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif down there when I o-ringed my drain valve.

Once you have the valve off, the o-rings just slip into recesses on the face of the valve.

Thanks klhansen..Yes it looks hard to get in there, but I will have to figure a way. The more I play with it the worse it leaks.

smeezy...Thoses are the photo's I have seen before. Thanks.
I just found out from the dealer that the valve kit ($50) does not come with the
o-rings, and that is a seperate kit($40). OUCH.

Wish me luck.

Thanks...more good help.
Yes I know I can get them cheaper..but I need them NOW since the leak is very bad, and at $2.69 a gallon in Calif I do not want to give fuel away.

Ouch!!

I put plain-ole Buna N o-rings in mine. The 50 cent each variety that you find in the hardware store. They aren't quite as durable as Viton, but they'll last a good long time. I have one reference that rates Buna N in Diesel the same as Viton, and another that says test both of them in the specific application.

That's what mine did. I did'nt have the tools, and did'nt know if you could change the o-rings. So I took it off, and soaked it in PB Blaster, and to this day, no leak. I do have a new one sitting in the glove box, just incase it ever starts again. Glad to see you got it fix'd. It can be a little aggrevating.

While you're at it, you might want to put a piece of fuel line on the drain tube next to the passenger wheel well. I ziptied the end down under the front. This allows me to put a catch pan under it and predict where it'll go a little easier.
