Possibly going to order an 06 6.0 and was wondering is it worth the 300 to get the 3.73 limited slip or is it something you dont need under normal condtions?

Also thinking about the security package any input on this? worth the $ or no

Any feedback would be appreciated
Thankyou

I would say that it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it once and not have it! Just my $.02

Don't even THINK about this....just ORDER it with LS!! You'll regret it someday if you don't!

I went through this too when I ordered. I got it, its not locker, but it does help from just one tire spinning on me.

Ditto, it can be a Plus if it works right which you have to assume it will and w/o it IMO it's a definite minus in some situations.

When mine was working correctly it definitely saved me in a few situations and hopefully now that I might have fixed it (long story, but too much LS additive will mess things up ... I know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif ) I won't have the problems I had last year.

Yes, get the LS and advanced security. With the 6.0 the torque is so high you can spin the wheel on wet pavement. With the advance security leave the truck running (in cold weather) and lock the truck. I never take my keys out, just lock the doors and go.

If you never plan on upgrading to some sort of locker then yes get the LS. If you plan on getting a locker check it out first. Some require a non LS carrier. So if you get that one, you have to chuck your LS carrier and get a different one.

Sorry guys I disagree. The Ford LS sucks. It will wear out before he gets a chance to use it and when he needs it, it won't work. Happened to me. If you want a good LS, buy aftermarket. Why waste 300 bucks to have to spend a grand to replace it anyway /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I agree with the above statement - It's better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. But with the Ford LS, when you need it, you won't have it.

Small hijack here:

Stewcon,

I used to do the exact same thing (never remove the keys). I was told by my insurance agent that if my truck was stolen with the keys in the ignition, I would have a much harder time with a stolen vehicle claim. Now I just use the turbo timer in my alarm to keep the truck running. I keep the keys with me.

FWIW,

Tom

Well, you could get the LS then stack then open it up and stack the clutch discs properly and the stock LS will work great and for a much longer time.

Tom, I've never thought about the insurance issue. I do live in a small town of 5000 and seem to know about half of the people. I'll think twice whenever I go to a larger city to remove my keys. Thanks for the imput.

My Clifford alarm lets me remove the keys with the truck running in park.

LS or posi is great unless you do alot of driving in the snow and ice. One tire spinning and one not keeps you straight in the road. If both spin backside passes the frontside. If your offroad alot then LS or posi for sure. If alot of snow I would think about it. Just my experiance.

If I were to do it, I'd go w/o LS. By definition Limited Slip means that it'll slip just enough to keep you stuck! I'll bet it won't be too long before some aftermarket traction control system is available. This pulses the brakes (drive axle) to act as a limited slip sorta system. Drove a rwd Chrysler 300 with it on the beach in Hawaii. Worked great. Act's like ABS in reverse - or something like that. Anyway you can feel it and the vehicle go's.
