I just replaced the fuel door with an aftermarket locking one , one painted to match .

I have to admit, I finally went the cheap route. While I figured chances of getting random contamination by evil human was pretty low odds, I also figured spending $12 either as a deterrent or red flag was worth the investment.

I chose a cylinder style key set up just to be different. Amazon for $12. An hour of time, would have been less if I had all my tools organized.

Now I have a key lock on my aux fuel tank, diesel fuel fill, the diesel/def door, tool box. All different look and size key heads, but I think I will color code them in the future. And no I don't carry them all on my key ring, they are on a separate key ring I keep in the console.

Just spent [email protected] Ford for someone putting a ton of DEF fluid in my diesel tank. Studied these blogs for a good solution and yours seems to be the easiest one I have seen so far. Cannot seem to find a Diesel door to fit my truck and just feel like a sitting Duck in the meantime. Can you direct me to where you purchased your locks and any other info on the subject would be appreciated. F-350 Super Duty Platinum owner-

Do you have Comprehensive Insurance on your truck? If so, file a claim with your insurance company for the repair from vandalism....

BTW, I carry the original cap with me. Never can tell when one might do a foolish stunt of forgetting to replace cap and drive off.

I had a email conversation with an engineer at Stant. They are interested. They are working on it. The problem is that the DEF cap is small enough that the typical locking cap method won't work. If you have an idea, or better yet a prototype, I'm sure they would like to hear from you. Until then all we have is the locking door option.

I just purchased a F-250 with 6.7 diesel. The fuel door is plastic not a good place to attempt to install a fuel door lock. I also like the standard look. So I made my own DEF cap lock. Total cost $16. I had to file the DEF cap for it to fit in the hasp. I drilled a hole in the DEF cap for a Master lock. The hasp works like a "Club" to prevent being able to unscrew the DEF cap. I drilled a hole in the hasp and bolted in a small angle iron support which improves the difficulty to unscrew the DEF cap. But it is not needed, the Hasp prevents making a full turn off. Like any lock this can be defeated, but hopefully it will delay or cause a would be saboteur from completing his sabotage.
