Have you given any consideration to pulling up the last page when a topic is clicked on instead of pulling up the first page? Often in 2 and 3 page threads after selecting the topic, you have to reselect the page number to get to the latest responses. It wouldn't affect single page topics but it would avoid the two stage effect to get where you want to see the latest posts, often to find there haven't been any!
I also thing that it would pay to encourage people to use their first name in place of inserting there registered signature every time. Sometimes the registered signature is not relevant to the post comment at all.
