Looking at upgrading my 2001 f250 to a 2008 f250 crew crab srw f250.
Needing to know what to watch for what to stay away from? The 6.4 is all new to me, been a 7.3 guy for the past 7 years. truck is very clean and has very low miles, one owner.

thanks in advance for your time.

How many hours on the motor vs the miles? Look at the exhaust to see if it has been modified, if so I would question that.

Are the tail pipes clean/hazy or black?

Look at the degas bottle, should be ford gold coolant. When was the last time the nitrates were checked?

Look at the radiator seams, especially down along the frame rails. If there is rust then I would suspect a leak at the radiator seams.

Radiators are the weak link here. They dont fail and leave you stranded, rather there are some that leak.

There is a recent flash out there, has this truck had it and has this truck towed since?

I dont know the hours, will check tomorrow. Will check out the radiator as well.
the exhaust looks factory and very clean. I don't know if it has had the new flash either. Does it matter if it's towed since?

What else can I look for, problems/ hints of issues?
Is this the first year for the 6.4? is it a good motor?

The motor itself is good, 6.4 is used for 08-10 model years. 08 year was sold in 07 so technically there are a bunch out there.

The reason I ask about the flash is they added some checks to the cooling system in the PCM. To better catch issues faster.

Towing will verify if there are issues as it will get the motor working good.
