Hey,

Before I tear apart my steering column to find out why my shift lever (auto) is so freaking loose...does anyone know a probably cause? It has probably an inch of play in it where it just jiggles around. Still puts the tranny into proper selection just fine, but the looseness bugs me especially on bumpy roads...

Since I haven't even looked at it yet I don't know what I will find. I thought I would ask if anyone has had a similar issue with an easy fix. Hopefully a bolt has simply come loose...

Thanks.

Not quite sure where it is but look under the dash at the steering column. There is a bolt that you need to tighten up.

I just had a BTS put in down here & asked tranny guy if anything could be done about floopy shifter arm & both of guys said it was common & a cable under dash loosens at pinch bolt. 5 minutes later it was fixed!I thought the guy was gonna say all the bushings are shot & pot metal is wallowed out & stuff like that with all those city miles on it. ( former airport shuttle) I'm super thrilled it is fixed !!!
BTW the mechanic reached up under panel by brake pedal to fix. He said Ford does not put a lock washer on, but he will. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/warmsmile.gif
