Don't know where to start. 97 F250 idles fine but when driving truck has no power and the Check engine light comes on. Don't have scanner. Can push pedal to floor and truck has no response.

Any suggestion on a scanner that will work with my truck.

Thanks,

Andy

AutoEnginuity on Laptop is what many use on the Strokes.
You should show your location so someone can help. I would first think that you have the under valve cover harness / connectoin problems. You could also check fues pressure with a tire guage on the valve on drivers side of fuel filter canister. Idle should see above 50 psi. Might just need fuel filter change

Thanks, for the reply I changed the fuel filter a few days ago it was fine that day but the next and now it was popping the check engine light and stumbling during acceleration. When i turn the truck on and back off the check engine light goes off.

PS I'm in Middleburg, VA

If you cant scan it I think throttle position senson on the pedal is where I would start! I think its like a 20 dollar.... But the UVC harness can be check by simply looking/smelling the plug ends at the valve covers. If they are melted or smell burnt there is your problem!

Scanners... I guess normal scanners dont like powerstrokes. I personally have a edge evolution tuner I baught of a guy for 150 bucks that I baught specificly for that reason. I kno the snap-on scanners work with it. The scanner ive heard of that excavator is talking about works. Beyond that I donno...

OK I still think you could have a UVC harness burnt or bad connection. Please take the oil filler cap off valve cover and smell the filler cap and in the valve cover itself for BURNT WIRE smell. Even if the other side vcover has the burnt harness it will smell on passenger side. It is a distinctive burnt smell and you will know it. Take a wiff and let us know

ok this morning i check the uvc harnesses and smelled the oil cap for a burnt smell all smelled and looked normal to me. Two things I notice where there is smoke coming from the dip stick tube and also with the oil cap removed there was smoke coming from it as well. Another thing last week when i checked the oil level it was at the add mark. So I added 1 quart of oil and rechecked it. that brought it back to full mark. Today I notice on the dip stick that it says when at add mark add two quarts of oil should i add another quart of oil even though it says it is full.
Thanks,
Andy
