Never heard of this!! Who did your last oil change? How exactly did it destroy the trans?

Then someone has installed the wrong combination of parts. The filter body is touching the OE oil pan when it is place. The sump tube is about 1/4" from the bottom of the sump. There is no place for it to fall.

Sounds like a 2WD filter was installed in a tranny with a 4WD pan.

When I added the Mag-HyTech pan on the trans. I had to use the 4wd filter for the extra depth to prevent that problem.

When I had my 2000 trans done at BTS, Brian trashed my factory pan and replaced it with a factory pan which was identical except for two small dimples in the pan. Brian said that a trans flush proceedure can push the filter almost out. He commented that sometimes it is only partially out where the vehicle can be driven, but if it sits overnight, it may not move the next morning. The dimples were added to help hold the filter in position. Not sure when the change was made at the factory. The other possibility is when the filter was last replaced, the old o-ring did not come out with the filter and remained in the valve body. The old o-ring could have prevented the new filter from seating all the way. Dale

While pulling my boat thru the mountains in Colorado the trans started slipping when I pulled over a person driving by said that the truck was on fire. Pulled out the fire extingusher and put the fire out. The trans got so hot it pushed fluid out of the top of the housing and got onto the manifold causing a small fire. I had the truck towed to a Ford dealer and $700 later and a camshaft sensor later I was on the road. The dealer said that the filter was loose in the pan. On the way home it started slipping again. I took it to another Ford dealership and had a rebuilt trans installed. Not cheap.
