Hello All,
I've got a 2000 Excursion PSD and now just bought a 2002 F-250 PSD. The F-250 was an auction truck so there's no history on it, but it does act just a bit different than my EX. It smokes just a bit of white smoke on start up, but it clears in 2 minutes, and when I gas her a bit heavy it produces just a bit of black smoke. The only reason I bought it up was because my EX doesn't smoke at all on start up, and I REALLY have to plant my foot for the EX to smoke. Do you guys think the F-250 is in any danger? Or is the EX just showing off how prissy she is? The last thing is the noise, the F-250 seems a bit loud on the driver side, almost like an exhaust leak, is that common for the 7.3? Thanks for the help guys. - Tom

Sounds like it might have a chip in it. Also check the exhaust to see if it has a muffler on it. How's the power?

The F-250 dosen't have any type of modified exhaust, so it's not a "Rumble" if you will. The sound is more like a loud clicking. As far as power I feel pretty certain the F-250 will walk off and leave my EX, it feels noticably stronger.

My 2000 leaks from the exaust manifold to block, and the up pipes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/sick.gif It probably is chipped?

Black smoke and more power = chip or tuner.

Also the F-250's don't have as much sound dampening as some of the X's. So that ticking noise you hear on the driver's side is more than likely the LL#8 injector cackle.

Thanks for replies guys, yes I think you're right about the noise. Because from the outside my EX and the F-250 sound about the same. I'll have to research the chip thing. Thanks again. - Tom
