I towed a 12 ft trailer this weekend 1500 miles round trip and my mileage went from 16-18 down to 8 mpg. I was talking with DP tuners today about order a 6 position setup and mentioned this and we said it could be something to do with the orings on the injecters. While I was away this weekend I had a couple people mention to me about my truck being loud at idle. I don't know much about diesels as this is my first, but doesn't the cackling sound at idle have something to do with this?

If anyone has any idea of my my mileage dropped so much I'm interested to hear it. It seems to be getting the 8pmg not pulling anything thing. I doesn't seem to smoke all that much. If its louder than normal at idle...I wouldn't know because like mentioned this is my first diesel.

Thanks for any help.

Many folks are complaining of low mpg lately. Some say it is the refineries draining their tanks getting ready for the new low sulphur fuel, and we are getting the junk on the bottom, some others say it is the new fuel itself. This is affecting 2-3 mpg not 10!!! I would change my fuel filter and fill up with a good source of fresh fuel and see what happens. I assume these are hand calc and not the overhead!!!
You may have goteen a really bad tank of fuel.
Good Luck

It was figured at the pump. I used 175 gallons over the course of the 1500 mile trip. I just changed my fuel filter, but I guess I will try it again.
