So I'm chatting with a guy yesterday about trucks and he tells me his 7.3 had 475HP at the flywheel,, he has Edge stuff on it,, then he tells me that the stock injectors are good up to 600 HP. I just grin at him and forgoe telling him that he has been severely misinformed. The truck in my sig dynoed at 314HP.

But, the conversation got me to thinking,, if you threw everything you could at a 7.3 with stock injs,, except drugs,, what would the max HP be?

PS,, the guy also told me there ws 13 thousand pounds of pressure in the injection system,, he was a wealth of information.

I'll find out my peak power in August when Jody does live tuning on my truck. After he's done I'll put it on the dyno and see what numbers it throws up. Stock injectors and no drugs.

Didn't TheHammer69 dyno around 370-380? Maybe someone knows the answer to that. I know he was running stock injectors, and maybe still is. If we get lucky he'll pop up and tell us, but he's been busy with his Corvette.

330-350 max is what i was told.I did 302 with 3 or 4 bad stock injectors,no way 600 hp on stock sticks.

at the fly wheel and at the wheel is a big difference .
I am sure a dyno 385 is well over 400 at the fly wheel.

although rear wheel hp is where you feel the most gain.

infact I would hazard a guess that this is the biggest difference between a lot of chips and tuners. so a tuner that jumps 80 hp isn't going to be as strong as one that jumps 80 rwhp

Multiply your oil pressure times injector ratio = fuel pressure
Oil pressure will vary by your HPOP efficiency and fuel pressure will also vary by injector ratio and condition.

Example -
3000 x 7:1 = 21,000 psi

OOOPS,, sorry I wasn't very clear, he was talking about HPOP pressure not the actual injetor pressure. Just kinda funny

As a follow up to this question I was wondering what kind of power I can expect with my planned mods? I have an AFE stage 1, 4" turbo back exhaust, BTS trans and I plan on getting an ATS housing and a DP tuner.

Here are some general numbers based on numerous folks with these setups reporting these numbers:

stock injectors w/ the basic supporting mods: 300-310
same as above plus big oil: 340-345
if you have a manual trans and no big oil: 320-330

I did 351 in colorado with a turbo and water/meth... Stck sticks stock oil.

If I remember correctly Hammer only did 348. Basic supporting mods + a Garrett ball bearing turbo.

I think others have done 350ish with basic supporting mods and big oil as well.

I have been wondering this magic number myself. Not for racing purposes, but for safety reasons. I don't care to gamble in that 400HP range and have to worry about my rods all the time.

I am hoping to upgrade to a HPOS and a Turbonetics with the .84 housing real soon. Then have Jody re-burn my chip and be done with it. All with the stock injectors in place and with the intent of having a burly daily driver/tow rig that is relatively reliable.

So is it safe to assume I will be somewhere in the mid 300 HP range when all said and done? and without having to worry about broken rods and blown head gaskets?

JMS1(TDS member), put down 336HP on his 80 Econo tune with a stock turbo.

I would "guess" that mid 300's with that set up is pretty close. Based on what I've read here and what my truck has dynoed at (314HP),, similar set up as yours, so adding big/medium oil and a better turbo should net 40 or so HP,, JOEY WHERES THE CARDIAC ARREST????????

Jacob (RockinJW) did 342, iirc, with stock sticks and a Terminator.
