I found a 2001 F350 4x4 Diesel in mint condition with all the power options it runs and drives great. The only concern I have is that it has 139,000 miles on it. Is that to many miles for a diesel engine?

That diesel engine is fat and happy at that mileage...it's other truck components that I would be more worried about.

Wildbill, I am about the same as you. 212k on a 99, but everything is holding up except the leather seats. I need to buy some new covers, but they are so darn expensive.

I recently bought a couple of leather seats for my wife's Liberty on ebay from a guy in Erie, PA who specializes in leather interiors out of salvage vehicles. When my brother and I went to pick them up, the guy had a warehouse full of seats - everything from Land Rovers to Minis. Hundreds and hundreds of used interior pieces. I can't find the guy's number but I'm sure he's still selling the stuff over there... might be worth a shot...

Yeah, I keep my eye on ebay all the time. The only thing I see alot of is just the seat bottom and they normally sell for $200+. Seems a little expensive to me.

It also depends on the price. If the miles were put on by a slow-driving old geezer pulling a camper every now and then, sounds good. Some of the hot-rodders I see could ruin an anvil the way they drive, though.

A well-cared for 7.3 diesel engine will go double that mileage, I am confident. My 7.3 will have about 150K on it when I get back from Alaska. I'm very confident I could drive it another 150K...but have recently been having new truck "seizures".

Good luck with whatever you do.

have a 2000 with 247,000 and a 1997 with 386,000 . they work everyday, the 97 has a toolbody mounted on it with an extra row of tool boxes and a ladder rack on top of those. and dont forget my old 90 f-350 with the 460 gas motor 495,000 on the original motor.

I think that you guys with over 200K are lucky, i know alot of people that cant make it to 120 without having loads of problems. And people that say that a diesel is broke in at 200K might be right, the block might be but the injectors, pump, tranny, interior, and everything else is probably getting trashed. With my luck theirs no way its getting kept pass 100-120k. But with an 02 and i only have 40K on it itll be a good long while, probably go from lack of use before millage lol you guys must baby your trucks a heck of a lot better than me /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I have a 01 7.3 with 200,000 miles on it and the Interior looks so good that My Aunt asked if it was my new new 05. I took a Client and his wife to look at some products a few weeks ago it impressed them! He told me he liked it more than his BMW!! Things are starting to break down but I didn't spend a penny until 203,000 miles.

I've got nearly 170,000 on my early 99 and have had it airborne 4 times... I'm more into "product testing" than babying anything. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smokin.gif

No pics. Twice at Hollister Hills ORV Park. Maybe more impressive was my buddy not spilling the super big gulp after losing the lid on takeoff, sitting in the back seat not realizing "we were going for it."

The last time was a railroad crossing and I broke a fuel line fitting. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif Now I have a vw based dune buggy to "product test."

I never had more than about 2 feet of air. But I did have to laugh when that guy said he hit a speed bump fast and thought he might have hurt his truck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Bro-in-laws 94 Powerstroke F250 5spd 4x4 had 344k on it when he sold it to one of his employees. Only thing that was changed on it was the clutch twice and something with the glowplugs. Still runs like a top today with 37xk miles on it. Of course YMMV, but there are lots of trucks out there with high-mileage and low maint costs.

Got 201K on mine......knocking on wood, no majors, but I did put a BTS in it a 141K. I pull a huge horse trailer with it. I service it like crazy and it serves me well. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif

Yep!!, that 01 with 139,000 on the clock is on it's last legs. I have 476,000 on My 02, and it is just about broke-in! I would not trade for an 06 even up. In My opinion the 7.3's will still be burning #2, when the 6.0's will be scrap iron. If the 01 You are looking at has had decent care, it is good to go for a long time.
