I'm rebuiling my engine. The kit has a new oil pump. The front cover is actually part of the oil pump and there are some minor (circular) scoring where the gerotor rides on the cover. I was going to take the front cover to a pump shop or machine shop to have them mill a sciff off of this area to clean it up. Are there any reasons that anyone can think of why I should not do this? If the scoring is light maybe just a few figure eights on a laping table will fix it up.

Be careful these covers are about $480 from ford, If yours is only slightly scratched, I would not mess with it.
