I was told the sync system allows you to turn your truck into a mobile hotspot via an internet signal from the satellite radio.

everything i have read states you have to pluge in a wireless card first, then it will project it. I can't find anything otherwise.

Your thoughts?

Are you talking about this:

FORD WORK SOLUTIONS™
In-Dash Computer by Magneti Marelli™ 87N

An in-dash computer developed with Magneti Marelli and powered by Microsoft Auto that provides full high-speed Internet access via the Sprint Mobile Broadband Network and navigation by Garmin. It’s the first broadband-capable in-dash computer in production. This system allows customers to print invoices, check inventories and access documents stored on their home or office computer networks – right on the job site.

I haven't heard of or seen any of the new SD's with it...

You were told wrong.
Figured as such...sounded too good to be true. I guess I could always get a wireless card if I want it that bad.

My advice would be to just get a MyFi and just plug it into the truck somewhere out of view and that would essentially do the same. Even with the work solutions in-dash computer you have to have an active subscription through Sprint mobile to use any of the internet functions (correct me if I'm wrong) and personally I would choose ATT or Verizon over Sprint.

Most newer smartphones (Android, iPhone etc.) have the option to share the phones data connection as a Wi-Fi connection.
Yea I've got Verizon and have the android o/s but need to see if that will work.

I have a windows mobile phone (Verizon Omnia II) and use WMWifiRouter. Works great, kids connect iPad's/Touch to it while on the road. I just have to make sure I'm plugged into the one of the USB ports because it chews up battery quickly.

I think most of the newer Android phones support mobile hotspot. The caveat is that unless you have a rooted phone you will need to pay Verizon $$ to activate this function. I think it might be around $30/month.
