you want be able to smoke unless somethin is going wrong with yout truck. you need tunes to get a 7.3 to smoke. and at that you need good tunes dp tuner or tw. or i guess you could get some injectors but you will more than likely need some tunes to help it run well.... so if you want smoke then you will need to chip your truck...why don't you want to chip it?

Why do so many psd owners want to have black smoke pouring out of their exhaust? The only reason I can understand is to cloud another driver that has p!$$ed you off. Otherwise black smoke is a sign of unburned fuel due to a poorly tuned or inefficient engine.

I've heard tuning/programming your truck offsets everything else in your truck....sure your engine has more horsepower/efficient, but airflow, tranny strain, etc. aren't matched up to it. Now, if you spent 4-5K on completely tuning your truck engine to exhaust then its different i know, but just the little mods on your motor are not good IMO.

I know diesels run normal with a little smoke, but i'm just looking for a little more black exhaust when someone is tailgateing me and i can make them choke on diesel for a few seconds. basically just for looks, but i know what your saying xfordtdm...

On my 99 I made a block off plate that was contolled with a lever inside the cab. It would block off the air from the filter tothe turbo. I dont know if it would hurt anything if you didnt do it too long

i think its the best way to show that your truck is modded and bad azz, kinda like that lopey 3/4 cam in your small block,or those slicks,or mini tub job on your pro street driver....know what i mean....smoke em if you got em!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's already off-set.
Who's to say exactly what is or isn't offset?

The engine has already been detuned to meet emission standards, FMC uses the same T.C and transmission over multiple horsepower and torque applications.
You are correct, it would be better to give more air-flow with more horspower. And your "tranny strain" is more defendant on your driving habits than the amount of power under the hood.

A chips is what you're looking for, just don't drive like an idiot, and you'll not be hurting your truck at all.

My 97 has over 340k with a DP tuner 80hp PCM. Still the original Transmission. Truck used daily to tow.

My 2003 has over 130K, all runs like new with up to 160 Xtra Poinies under the hood.

I think pillar guages and a 4 potato shooter exhaust is the best evidence of mods. I can't tell you how many looks and questions I get when other diesel truck owners see the pillar guage pod.
