This has been going on for a couple months....had it in the dealer to check it ou....5 days later and they said nothing-
Anyhow...it's been taking 5-6 seconds to turn over...yesterday it took 8-9 seconds and just stumbled into idle...this morning at the drive thru...cut motor to order...went to turn it back over and 10-12 seconds of turning....nothing...kill it back and hit the glow plugs again....same thing. Aw hail I'm thinkin I'm done....one more time and I let it rip for a good 15-18 seconds and it booms to a start-

WTH is going on here?? guess I'll take it back to the dealer but I'd like some ammo when I go in...any ideas???

Leaky High Pressure Oil Pump?

Does it start easier when it's cold?

Good luck,

Nope....normally when it's warm it will fire right up-
Rephrase initial post...cold starting is average 5-6 seconds to turn over...the past 2 days it's been worse...way worse although at teh drive thru it was no doubt a normal operating temps /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

I'll see what it does here in a few minutes when I meet wifey for lunch /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Bad batteries?? I've seen this before where the engine seemed to be turning over fine, yet the batteries were too weak to get it going.... It doesn't seem to take much in the way of weak batteries to stop these things from starting..

It sounds like you have a high pressure oil leak. I had one a couple weeks ago, it would take about 5 seconds to build icp, customer said it was getting worse. It would start better hot than cold. Typically a high pressure oil leak will be the opposite, and start better when cold, as the oil is thicker. The one I worked on a few weeks ago, turned out to be an o-ring tore on a plug on the left hand high pressure oil rail. The o-ring was pushed out very slightly that would not leak severely enough to cause engine to not start/lose power/ect, but when it would sit overnight, the high pressure oil rail would bleed down throught this torn o-ring, causing a long crank to fill the rail on cold start and build icp. I would recommend finding an experienced tech to perform air test on high pressure system.
