I heard about someone who recently got into a bussiness sellling a fuel additive that is currently trying to be shut down by the goverment because the product is said to be no more than moth balls.
I could'nt get many details and thought someone hear might know about it.
The bussiness sounds like a MLM so that alone makes it sound a little fishy.
But thought someone hear might have tried it in their 6.0 and I am curious as to the results.
One reason for my curiosity is that years ago I used to be a dozer operator and I remember the old timers saying that putting a handful of moth balls in the fuel tank of a dozer made it push better but I was never brave enought to try it.

There's a whole thread on this down in the biodiesel forum.

If you have a 6.0, NOT NOT PUT ANYTHING IN THE FUEL TANK OTHER THAN FUEL, A GOOD DIESEL SUPLEMENT, OR GOOD QUALITY BIODIESEL.

Use of anything other than the above, will cause problems in the injection system & WILL result in a denial of waranty claim. These engines are a whole 'nother animal than what the "old timers" used, and using "old timer's wisdom" will cause expensive problems in a new diesel engine.

Yeh, I think that was in a gasoline tank to raise the octane of the gasoline. not for diesel.

I think Mythbusters did a bit on that not too long ago but I can't remember the results -- it wasn't drastic either way (but I'm sure they were doing it on a gas engine).

Since I first posted I have seen the news reports on TV and it sounds like it does not work.
I thought it sounded a little to good to be true.
The only true way to save fuel is to keep your foot out of it.
I have,nt found anyone who has actually used moth balls in a diesel engine other than the old timers from years ago, who are all gone now, talking about putting it in dozers but I have found someone who stated that he used to mix moth balls with av gas to run hot rod street cars in the early 70,s.

The only use of moth balls in engines that I've heard of is when you have a carbureated car that won't pass emissions. You then put some in the air cleaner...apparently, the napthalene gas they put off fools some emissions sensors for certain types of emissions failures...at least that's what the scuttlebut is.

Never heard of putting them IN THE TANK, or using them with a diesel...

Yea on mythbusters (t.v.show) they put moth balls in the GAS tank and It aparently adds a small small amount of power. IT sounds pretty stupid to me puting moth balls in your fuel and you wouldnt see anyone I know doing it. Hek just dump some 110 octane race gas in your diesel it will add power Just destroy itself shortly after. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif
