Son is out here with his '96 F350, only mod is a superchip. Coming out to visit it did a momentary cut out approximately 1 sec then ran fine for a couple of hours then repeat. He thought it could be felt in the throttle pedal. Would this be the CPS or where should we start to look? Fuel milage has also decreased substantially from 15 to 9.

Hey Mike....

Might be a good idea to provide a bit more info, such as: How many miles on truck and existing CPS?
When you say superchip is this a programer or actual chip that is plugged into the PCM?

Did he get any "check engine" light to indicate an engine codes?

Running winter diesel now?

Could be a cps.

If it had a cps hick-up you would have to reset the go pedal before it would fuel again.

Normally a cps headed south on the freeway would throw a check engine light.

The truck is at 112k miles with the original CPS. The superchip is a programmer rather than a chip. There have been no SES lights or OD switch flashing. The programmer has been on/in since early last summer about 5k miles, the problem has only been in the last 2 weeks. Thanks for the help.

sounds like the same symtoms when my cps quit. i didn't get a cel...just seemed as if i turned the key off for a second. i didn't notice a loss of fuel mileage though? i would keep an extra cps handy. is the fuel pump leaking?

Hey Mike...

Thanks for the extra info. What I would do is check for codes with the programer. If you do not have a spare CPS now would be the time to get one. Switch it out and see what happens. Keep the old one as a spare to get you home with.....IIRC my would run intermittent and got worse as time went on so it could be the CPS.

It started getting more frequent today with a total of 30 miles traveled, still no CEL. He got a CPS today, I'll report if it fixes the problem. Thanks for the help.

The problem appears to be solved with a new CPS. Of course it had to be changed laying on cardboard in the snow at 15 def. F. There never was a CEL. Thanks for all the help.
