Subject says it all. I realize there are no emission tests on my 6.0, but is this legal to do? Just concerned about getting flagged during state inspections...

BTW, thanks for all the ideas. Great reading...just finally registered and probably will have more questions. BTW, truck is 2004..

The Muff doesn't have anything to do with diesel emissions (Noise Emissions-yes). Removal is a local thing, you have to check with the PD in your area for a good answer. If you rip the cat out, or beat the heck out of it, it is perfectly illegal. Good thing I haven't been inspected. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You didn't list where you live. I was told by the local garage that The Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation issued a letter to each registered inspection station stating that any diesel truck, pickup, dump truck, ANY diesel truck coming in for a state inspection, without a muffler is to be failed on the spot. Now I don't know 100% if this is true or not, just what my local guy says. I would check with your local authoritees to be sure.

[/ QUOTE ]Yeah they just amended the original rule of the Turbo being acceptable Noise muffling device. Now that isnt sufficent you have to at least have a resonator in the system to be "Legal" LOL!.Depends who you deal with.If its somebody I know I will let it slide if its a pre 02,But I only work with class 8 rigs though. But most 2003 and up Class 8 tks mufflers themselves are also Catalytic so Strait pipes on them wont fly with any Insp station. But you are right with the Rule it still covers a Diesel pick-up

Now you guys got me thinking (I had convinced myeslf this was worth a try before replacing the entire exhaust to get a better sound). Guess I need to check with local shops before cutting anything.

Seems like this is a pretty popular 1st mod amongst other members here. Maybe some states have stricter regs than others (btw, true Texan here).

Just don't want to sweat every year around sticker time.
