although the tow was only about 10 miles and on flat road, i was quite impressed with the v10. pulled every bit as good (if not better) than the old 7.3. i have a trip planned in nov. that will involve some hills in southeast ohio that i have done many times with the 7.3, then i'll have a better idea how well it compares to the 7.3.

Except with your 7.3 you wouldn't have had to stop to fill up twice on the trip.

don't you mean 3 times? actually the 7.3 got 10 mpg towing, so it'll be interesting to see what this v10 gets towing.

I will go well for you. Might need some rpms but those motors can take it and that is where the power is.

my first take on these v10's is good. they seem to be quite a powerhouse. i will be able to give a better comparison in early nov. when i get it in some hills. so far i'm impressed.

I had an early V10, '99 350 bought in '98. I towed a 14K lb 5er. I could pull the Cajon Pass (I-15 on way to Vegas) at 55mph using 2nd gear. It was wound up, but it did it.

However, I did have two places where I didn't have the chance to get the RPM's cranking. Even in 1st I just couldn't get the RPM's up to get up on the torque curve. Barely made it up the Hwy.

The point is make sure you gear down and keep the RPM's up. The V10 is a high reving engine. You won't hurt it. The later V10's are far superior to my old one, and I did like my V10.
