I was getting the latest flash for my truck yesterday and while waiting I went to the parts dept and asked if they sold any performance parts for my truck. They handed me the Bully Dog Triple Power brochure and told me they stock them for $525. I asked them if it voided my warranty and they said no, they wouldn't sell it if it did. I then took the brochure over to the service manager and asked the same question since I would be buying it from them. He said no... Unless I abused the vehicle, then there might be a problem. He then said, just return it to stock settings and take it out before bringing the truck in for service. I also asked about exhaust systems and if they would void my warranty after installing one... he said they don't care about exhaust systems and they wouldn't void my warranty if I installed one. I have less than 11,000 miles on my truck, and I was planning to leave it stock after reading about all the voided warranties on this site... even from exhaust systems. I guess my dealer is mod friendly. So should I buy it or leave it stock? I don't know if $525 is a good price or not, but I think it's worth it if for some reason something happens and Ford denies warranty work if they trace it back to a "power enhancer". I wish they sold the SCT so I could get custom tunes with Pilot Injection, but they only sell BD. I suppose I would have some good leverage with proof the dealer sold me the power enhancer? What do you guys think?

I would not only get it in writing, with every single managers signature on it then take it to Navistar and have them endorse it, then get everyone on video agreeing to what they signed or video them signing it. Then send it to FOMOCO and have them endorse what your dealer said. Then let us all know =)

You will have better chances of getting warranty work done as you're dealer seems to be mod friendly. They cannot tell whether you have run a bd or a sct, so don't get a 2nd rate tuner just because they sold it to you and you think that helps. I have a 1704 sitting in my office for that exact reason, which never worked right that my ford dealers tech sold me. Get the sct, and take it out before you take the truck in. The only warranty problems may arise when, and if a factory rep needs to come out to approve a repair, and finds traces of the tuner, then they WILL deny the repair if it maybee remotely caused by the tuner, based of what has happened in the past. Oh yea, and don't waste you're time trying to get all that stuff in writing, because it ain't gonna happen.

I had a edge that did not work very well on my truck, a friend had the bully dog pup and I tried it...it worked great..gave it back to him..but I wanted to know if it was the edge or my truck that was not working..come to find out the edge has issue's with 03 trucks
worked on my friends 04
if the dealer sells it to you and you keep you receipt than I would say you have ammo to use if they don't cover your warranty
good luck

If you run the programer at 100% you WILL cause trans slippage(damage) if you abuse it. Ask my how I know!!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/biggrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/eek.gif

Are you saying running the extreme tune at 100% full time will cause tranny slipage, or any tune at 100%? Can I run the extreme tune at 25%-50% full time, with no slipage? I need the outlook monitor to control the percentage of a paticular tune, correct?

It is my understanding that FOMOCO denies warranties, not the dealer, so the dealer may tell you one thing, but when a big warranty claim hits the desk of a rep at FOMOCO he will send a field rep out and deny it. In other words I messing around when I said to get everything in writing, we all know that would never happen, especially from International and FOMCO

Seems to me that guy could get a lawyer and take Ford and the dealer to court and settle it. There are a lot of people who do not know any better. If you purchase a new truck with dealer installed options... You should still have a warranty, period! No different than dealer installed alarms... tint... after market tow packages... rims... conversions! This is my first diesel and if it were not for this site I would have the BD right now. I have friend who has his truck modded with intake, exhaust, after market turbo, lift, SCt programmer, and grenaded his transmission with a custom extreme tune. Got a new tranmission installed under warranty. No questions asked. I think taking it to the right dealer is everything, but what do I know? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shrug.gif

Yeah, if you run the extreme tune at 100 percent you will smoke the tranny. I burnt up the direct clutch twice and the converter once. I have the outlook and run the extreme tune at 25-50% now and bump it to 100 after its rolling about 25 mph. I'm eventually upgrade to an sct though.

I run the BD with the Outlook and I believe you guys could be a little mistaken I'm not sure though. The BD computer runs the Extreme tune only at 100%. When it's at 75% it's the performance tune and 50% is the tow and 25% is the economy tune. At least thats what my BD Outlook says.

Legends.... does your Outlook say the percentages, or what mode it's in? I could be wrong here, but, maybe not.

Personally, I think that ANY programmer will smoke a STOCK tranny. I've said this a few times and I'll say it again, the stock tranny and T/C is designed for stock power and torque. Eventually, the tranny will say goodbye using an SCT or BD or Edge or whatever you put in your truck. A 5R110 is designed for 325h.p. and 560 or 565 ft./lbs. of torque. Enough said.

If I built it and someone else modified it(I don't care who that someone is)and then sold it to you and it broke, I wouldn't warranty it.

if you built it and authorized some to make repairs for you and sell these trucks under your name, and they modified it and it broke , and you still let them sell for you, ya you are at fault too !!!

This dealer may very well go the extra mile for you if you bought from them. However...

It is Ford that pays the dealer for waranty repairs, and if Ford says no, that leaves the dealer or you holding the bill. Also, what happens if you are out on the road somewhere, and have to go to another dealer?

Good point. Don't know what I would do. I had a car wreck years ago several hundred miles away from home. Worst thing I ever did was leave it in that city while they did the repairs. I will not ever do that again and will have it towed to a repair shop of my choice. That was an option I had and didn't know about at the time. I'm sure Ford will not pay to tow it back to my dealer. Something to think about. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

First of all dont get anything from the dealer, there overpriced and if a dealer wants to sell you a bullydog anything....they have no clue what is going on with performance parts to begin with. Bullydog has been having problems with locking up ECU's. The best downloader for the 6.0L now is the STC Excalabrator 2 it made the best real power gains on an independant study that has the results on SCT's website http://www.sctflash.com/shootout.php Check it out great product.

The dealer that is attempting to sell this tuner is risking a fine and possible violation of his dealer agreement. Read the owners manual. That is FOMOCO's policy. The dealer is bound to uphold it in accordance with his dealer agreement.
